Medical Test Overview

This stage is about making sure you don't carry contagious diseases. This is done by doing a medical test at the UAE hospital of your choosing - however the actual proceedings depend on the UAE state you're in.

Usually the medical test involves a blood test and sometimes an X-ray. Also finger prints are taken and your eye iris is scanned.

In case you decide to let the Free Trade Zone make arrangements for the medical test, your passport is usually handed over to the Free Trade Zone from the day the medical test is done. You get it back a few days later with the UAE residence visa.

The next step is to get your residence visa
The previous step is to obtain the temporary employment visa.
 

What do you need to do the medical test & finger printing?

  1. - Passport with employment visa stamp
  2. - Original employment visa (pink slip)
     

The Process

Passport and Employment visa are left for processing by the Free Zone Company
Blood test, Eye-Iris scan is done at a UAE hospital and finger printing at a UAE police station.

Medical test and finger printing

In case you decide to let the Free Trade Zone handle the medical test appointment your passport is at the free trade zone for the full duration of the process. Leaving the country, cashing checks and all other operations requiring your passport are impossible during this stage.

In case you make your own appointment for the medical test, you can keep your passport up to the stage where the residents visa becomes available and needs to be sticker-ed into your passport by the UAE immigration department.

The medical tests usually only involves a blood test for infectious diseases. A chest x-ray or a written test can also be part of the testing. The results of the medical test is required to start the finger printing. The blood test results usually are available within 3 working days. With good test results, finger prints are taken at a UAE police station.

This process takes quite some time and involves queuing up in big groups at the hospital for drawing blood and police station for finger printing. (summer / autumn 2008)

To European standards the Iris scan, blood test, finger prints seems extreme. An average European country has less information about it's citizens than the UAE requires for living as a (expatriate) resident.
